Banff Transit Shelter

The city of Banff is a resort town located in The Rocky Mountains within Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. Known for its mountainous surroundings and hot springs, Banff is one of Canada’s most popular tourist destinations.

Having to adhere to the stringent requirements of the Banff design guidelines and extreme weather conditions, as well as come up with a look and feel that was suitable for the surroundings, Monarch designed, supplied and installed custom wood-accented transit shelters. The shelters complement the natural environment and provide a warm and eco-friendly space for the travellers of the Roam Public Transit service. This service is provided by the Bow Valley Regional Transit Services Commission.

Monarch’s wood-accented transit shelters are professionally engineered and made from durable materials that are built to last. They are highly adaptable to the surrounding location and can be easily maintained. Monarch is a recognized leader in designing and developing transit products, street furniture and wayfinding products.

Monarch completed the design, supply and installation of these shelters in two phases. The first phase of the project was seven T-series wooden accented transit shelters at the following locations:

As with all of our transit shelters, the design is completely modular and engineered for any number of desired future expansions or add-ons. For example, solar panels could be incorporated into the roof for self-sustaining illumination and lighting. Our pressure-fit, mechanically-sealed design allows for any number of materials to be used, whether it be tempered glass or acrylic, natural lighting or energy-efficient LED illumination. We altered our T-series shelters to suit the customer’s needs and added the wooden accent for design, creating a custom shelter that exceeded expectations.

Monarch sent a team from our Richmond, BC office to oversee the assembly, ensuring that the installation was trouble-free. Our supplied instruction manual simplified the assembly, allowing our on-site construction team of four people to complete the installation in four days. The new shelters were completed in December 2017. The second phase of the wood-accented station shelters for Banff Transit Hub was installed at Banff High School and Cascade Shops. The second phase of two shelters was completed in October 2018.
